What We Do

Indigent Defense Improvement Division

The mission of the Indigent Defense Improvement Division is to protect the rights and safeguard the liberty of all Californians by working collaboratively with the public defense community and stakeholders to enhance support, training, and capacity for public defense systems in California.

Training

IDID provides training to defense team members throughout California, including public defenders, appointed private counsel, counsel appointed to represent youth and adults, social workers, and investigators.

Capacity Building

We work closely with counties and public defense systems to support the development and growth of public defense in California.

Reports and Resources

IDID builds information about the development of California’s public defense systems and provides resources to support litigation, capacity, and policy development.
