What We Do

Public Defender Training

Our division’s training team draws on extensive experience working in indigent defense practice and training programs across California and the country. We build high-quality training programs that are responsive to needs across the state.

Training participants receive instruction and coaching from experienced litigators and subject matter experts. IDID is approved by the State Bar of California as a multi-activity provider so participants in IDID training programs earn Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) credits and Criminal Law Specialty Area credits. Attendees are generally people working in indigent defense, including attorneys, investigators, social workers, and other defense team members.

Training is available through online webinars, our Training SharePoint Site, online on-demand courses, and live events.

What defenders are saying about IDID Training.

I have really enjoyed every session today. It has been educational, meaningful, and reinvigorating.
This was very well organized. I appreciated the email communication, the parking, the signs, the breaks. I hope to attend more trainings like this.
To be honest, I’m overwhelmed by all the things I do not know. The immigration piece was very big for me and opened my eyes more on the fact I need to address that issue more on my 1172.1 work. The biggest thing I got is that there are resources out there to ask for help.
Great to network with colleagues and be in community with all these experts! Learned so much from the parole hearing panel about how we can improve our representation of our clients—more time, more prep, more strategy!
